LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Dogs NYC Werewolf Gang until it imploded. Transferred to Order of the Phoenix for Merc Work. ROLE IN THE WAR: Elena Kerr is a physical, unstable, woman. She has very little magical skill, although she may attempt to fix that later, but what she lacks in magic she makes up in direct bruit force. From age seventeen on she has been fighting both for survival and for profit and she is proficient in hand to hand combat, knife fighting, and in basics with projectile weapons. Her fighting style is unorthodox street fighting—boxing mixed with military maneuvers she picked up from Sid and anything else that came her way. If there is anything Elena is good at—it’s surviving and it’s something she’d likely try to hard press into everyone around her: Survival at all costs. She is happy to instruct anyone on combining physical fighting with wand fighting--though she knows little of the latter she does know how to hold a wand while protecting the middle. POLITICAL VIEWS: Elena is anti-wizard, which makes it seem even more ridiculous that she is both a wizard and going to be living/working with the Order. She makes very little bones about it: wizards are not to be trusted until they prove to her they aren’t fucked in the head. The few who prove to be anti-wolf are to never be trusted again no matter the change of heart. Who knows when they will revert back? Elena’s distrust stems from having a less than positive schooling experience coupled with the response of the majority of the magical community when she realized she was a werewolf. The mass rejection and outright cruelty she saw displayed against herself and other wolves (and even by magical wolves to other wolves) has created the view of magic as a short cut—making people lazy and disconnected from the people they afflict magic on. Elena’s complete distrust of magic goes so far that she will reject any magical medical assistance offered to her outside of the Dog’s gang, trusted allies, or what she can do on herself. She is, however, less distrusting of Muggles, having been muggle born herself before going to magical school. Further, she is pro any-magical-being. |
Appearance |
APPEARANCE: Elena is about five foot four inches tall with wavy blond hair and gray blue eyes. In another life she might have been a trophy wife and, in fact, if people don’t look too closely or hear her speak they might still think she is just that. Unfortunately she’s anything but. This foul-mouthed woman has a spider web of silvery scars from changes crisscrossing her back. They peek out from her ripped jean shorts and are on display when she ties up her t-shirts during a fight. She might dress up pretty but she is crass, bossy, and her body is a road map of hard living if you know how to look. She is unconcerned with displaying them. Most people meeting her for the first time are appalled. Elena uses more curses than a sailor, she makes up abhorrent nicknames for half the people she meets, and she is confrontational at the best of times. She’s the type of woman who will get in a stranger’s face, call them a cuntpocket, and then back off to smile peaceably once the possible future slight has been nixed by the person’s own words. If she likes someone, she’s liable to punch them in the shoulder hard enough to bruise or drag them around by their head. If she doesn’t, she’s itching for a fight--and often times, she'll get it with words or fists. Many would assume she’s ignorant and hasn’t been educated. Certainly seeing her fumble with a wand would only strengthen these beliefs. However, they would be wrong. Elena may be unstable and crass but occasionally the right synapses fire and a brief section of her schooling will show. She has reasonably good grammar and spelling. She remembers her ancient Runes and Norse class very well. She is well versed in the insults that have been thrown at her and her pack. It’s simply that her true brilliance shines when she’s being insulting. |
Personality |
| WAND: 13.5 inches. Fir. Dragon heartstring. Unbending. Fir My august grandfather, Gerbold Octavius Ollivander, always called wands of this wood ‘the survivor’s wand,’ because he had sold it to three wizards who subsequently passed through mortal peril unscathed. There is no doubt that this wood, coming as it does from the most resilient of trees, produces wands that demand staying power and strength of purpose in their true owners, and that they are poor tools in the hands of the changeable and indecisive. Fir wands are particularly suited to Transfiguration, and favour owners of focused, strong-minded and, occasionally, intimidating demeanour. BOGGART: Aurors coming to take her in for her accidental murder of her aunt and uncle. She sort of blends the Auror robes with more general police uniforms creating a strange hodgepodge. PATRONUS: Ram. Rams can be very physical, stubborn, animals in dealing with each other. Elena is very much the same way—hard headed, single minded, and physical. She has never been able to produce a Patronus and currently has no memories that she can use to practice making one. The ones she has have become far too painful after the murder of Jay and Sid to ever be useful. LIKES: People listening to her--for their own good, physical fights and plays for affection, freedom, children (though she would deny it), funny people, lime green jello with whip topping, leather, and routines. DISLIKES: Wizards, Death Fucks, pancakes and syrup, futility, being confined, being ignored, her protectiveness being misunderstood, and pedophiles. STRENGTHS: Physical fights, herding younger people, organization, ordering take out, and insulting people. WEAKNESSES: Explaining emotion in words, magic beyond the basics, comforting people, not being insulting, and keeping an even head when she feels out of control of a situation. KNOWN INFORMATION: Elena is very vocal about her distrust of wizards. It is actually hard not to be accosted by at least one slur or distrusting word upon the first meeting—be it face to face or through journals. It is also well known that she is a werewolf, however she views being a werewolf as innate—a baseline for life and rarely sees the necessity of stating that she is one outright. She believes that her condition is apparent and acts accordingly. Elena only rarely talks about her biological family. What little that is said is kept simple. She would have to be excessively drunk to let it slip that she murdered her aunt and uncle during her first change or that her last name is not Kerr but Michaels. She will, however, talk about general werewolf experiences of which her own play a key role in her vocal drama—she just never uses her own name in them. She is loyal to the Dogs until they descend into Chaos again and this is also something that is apparent and will not be deviated from. If she joins and integrates into the Order the same will be true for them if she is able to bond closely with those inside the group. DETAILED PERSONALITY: It may not seem like it at first but Elena functions on control. Control of herself, of her environment (at least to the highest degree available to her), and those around her. Those who live and work with her are either with her or against her. An equal or not. Someone to be hated or loved. There are shades of gray, of course, but they are confusing and difficult to handle. If there is a conflict it is best dealt with physically. No one can argue when they are spitting blood through their teeth. This is not to say that Elena is a fixed point. Joy can switch to fury in a heartbeat, anger to good humor, stone faced refusal to almost vulnerable confusion. The only emotion Elena does not readily display, no matter the quick change of state, is sadness. Sadness as an emotion is useless and is best pressed into fury or confusion. If there is a question on what the most appropriate emotion for a situation is—Elena will pick fury and aggression. Even with those she feels closest to, those she may feel concern for, Elena is more likely to lash out than accept more than a brotherly hug. Kindness can be accepted with good humor, but if Elena arbitrarily feels the individual is getting too close she is likely to lash out in the attempt to preserve her own unity within herself. Relying on others emotionally is not an option because everything is transitionary. For Elena there is no such thing as stability. Though Elena did not start in legitimate fight rings until she was eighteen, she has been in physical fights since before preschool both with other children and adults. Either because of repeated injuries or a possible disability Elena does have some memory problems. For people she deems temporary—she assigns nicknames which help her draw up where she met or spoke with the person last. On occasion, she’ll confuse one person or another and exchange them for a particularly conversation. An example of the latter might be remarking, “didn’t you just tell me you didn’t want water?” upon seeing someone pour themselves a glass--someone did say they didn't want water, but its not the person getting a drink. Another residual of her teen years is her incessant need to be prepared. Though she lived with the Dogs for five years she still has a single packed suitcase she keeps under the bed and there are no fewer than three tins of nonperishable food hidden around the building. If she leaves: these tendencies will follow. Being prepared for the inevitable break up of a group, or separation from a lover, is a compulsion she can’t let go of. Further, in the pack Elena’s unstable behavior was partially masked. When feeling cornered, distressed, or upset Elena could go to the fight ring and either get a good fight herself or work the emotion out. Sid and Elena’s arguments were almost always physical and Elena welcomed that, having long been conditioned that that was the way things were. Outside of the pack, in the very different dynamic of the Order, Elena will have very few outlets. What was already displayable as a vibrant temper and quick mood swings could very well turn more violent, though she would never truly mean to hurt anyone. When paired with her violent tendencies and degrading language Elena also looks like an unlikely mother figure. Nevertheless, she is almost excessively protective of people who she views are under her care. When put beside her natural aggression this can be felt as smothering, violent, and inappropriate. This, too, will follow her to her new gang. Friendships with Elena are hard due to her internal ranking system. What few she keeps she is constantly on the lookout for a slight to bring them crashing down. She also often will try to actively tear them down herself by testing the boundaries again and again. What is more common is a protective mothering like with Candy, Ash, and Jay. Or an aggressive challenge of a relationship like with Green and Sid. Formerly Elena’s single goal was to have complete control of the Dog’s fight gang. She suspected that sooner or later Sid would trade her in for a newer model and was not so much accepting of it as resigned. So long as she had her place, people to look out for, and her ring she figured she’d be alright, safe, and have a (mostly) stable life. Through Sid's death her fight ring will be placed under the power of whoever comes after him. In previous incarnations of the gang Elena saw the power swiftly change from month to month meaning that her Ring, and the people she cares about, are likely going to either die or be taken away from her. Therefore, through Sid's death her goals have been more or less completely taken from her. Elena will struggle to find an alternative. With her need for control and dislike of gray situations this will not be easy for Elena. |
History |
A history of your character. This shouldn't read like a grocery list. Rather, it should take into account how your take on this character's personality/history affected who he or she became. So, in a sense, this is your way of selling your interpretation. For example, some players argue that Sirius thought prejudice based on blood purity was wrong when he was younger while others say it was a result of being at Hogwarts that changed his opinion. These are the sort of points you want to hit on here. The Harry Potter wiki (http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Siri If you need suggestions, areas you can hit on include what sort of home/class your character comes from, how much exposure your character has had to the muggle world, mentions of parents and siblings and how they affected your character, the house your character was sorted into, the sort of friends your character made (or didn't make) and why, what clubs and affiliations they might have belonged to, hobbies, what sort of student they were, your character's occupation(s), how your became involved in the Order/DEs/ministry/stayed neutral, goals/ambitions, what caused them to go into the line of work they are now in, etc. Still need ideas? There's a list of 365 character questions here. CHILDHOOD: Elena Kerr began life as Elena Michael's. She was the single child in the turbulent Michael’s family where arguments between the former high school sweethearts Elizabeth Wells and Tommy Michael’s were common and brutal—things did not stop with screaming and often quickly escalated into violence. By age six Elena had had three different casts(Pink, Purple, and Red). After a visit from Elizabeth's sister she was moved out of her parents’ home in Jackson Mississippi to the very quiet city of East Port Maine. There she was raised by Elizabeth’s sister Kelly, who owned a small corner store with her husband. The change in location should have been a positive experience for Elena but she had temper problems and trouble paying attention in school. Her southern accent took years to fully diminish and while she was popular for a while due to her novelty as a new student this quickly diminished when she proved to be violent and loud in her conflicts. She once knocked a little girl off the monkey bars for making fun of her hair. SCHOOL IN MASSACHUSETTS: Elena’s parents didn’t send money so she was on her aunts and uncles modest income. While that worked quite well up in the small city of East Port, there was not nearly enough money to afford tuition and board to a fancy magical school. What should have been an exciting invitation by a prestiegiious school bred high tension in the house hold both for Elena's aunt and uncle who didn't have that much money to spare--and Elena felt being sent to this magical school was the equivalent to being exiled. No matter how interesting it sounded. After two months of discussions Kelly decided to send her anyway and arranged for her to stay with a family friend named Virginia who lived in Massachusetts. Virginia was an elderly woman who was friendly and open minded but inevitably not enough support for the wild, angry, young woman Elena was growing up to be. The third change in location exacerbated her already explosive temper. Feeling the supposed rejection of her parental figures, Elena blew the tiniest slights out of proportion. Not wanting to share a cauldron was the equivalent of claiming to hate her. Reading a book could have been a cold shoulder. It didn't help that Elena's responses to the supposed slights were often far more than they should have been. Books ripped out of hands, cauldrons on the floor, hard shoves into walls. Elena was not gentle. This only became worse after the first year, when she returned to East Port in the summer. The distance had made her muggle friends grow apart from her. They didn't understand what she was doing in that 'fancy city school' because Elena wasn't all that smart anyway. And her aunt and uncle weren't made of money. How did she get to go? Besides she had already missed all the good stuff by being gone, anyway, and no one wanted to explain it all. Oh, were we supposed to call you when we went swimming? Amid dropping grades and an extensive reprimand sheet Elena was asked to leave just before her junior year. To this day she only practices basic wards, light spells, and anything that might result in a bit of flash—explosions, fireworks, and other such things. POST-SCHOOL: After flunking out, Elena returned to East Port to finish up her high school diploma. This was the last in a series of events that would more or less set her life. During a party in the woods she wandered off while heavily intoxicated. When she woke up her shit was in tatters and something had nearly ripped off her shoulder. She went to the hospital. A month later, her aunt and uncle's store was destroyed and she woke up covered in blood. Deciding against waiting around to be charged with murder Elena hitch hiked to New York. She was traumatized but all too willing to start a new life and attempt to forget about everything that had happened--what else could she do? At seventeen she was a high school dropout, a wanted murderer, and a werewolf. All things considered, she found it hilarious that it was the latter that culled her ability to work at any magical establishment. Muggle jobs were mostly out of the question as she didn’t want to use her social security card or chance getting caught making fake papers. Living on the street, Elena found that punching first and asking questions later was the best way to survive. She slept under park benches, dumpster dove, and fought people leaving soup kitchens for food. It was not a proud time for her but it eventually lead to the most unexpected job opportunity. After a particularly brutal fight she was offered a position in a local fight ring. Fighting other women was not difficult and she actually found she enjoyed it. She also made more than enough money to survive in a crappy hole in the wall apartment. It wasn’t until she turned twenty-two that she finally joined the Dog’s gang—having avoided it due to its turbulent and often murderous nature. This was just before Sid came into power and between him and the fight ring that the Dog’s provided Elena began carving out a place for herself. The next five years were easily the most stable and comfortable of Elena’s life since starting magic school. While Elena always knew that the golden years of the Dog’s gang would end, or that Sid would grow tired of her and leave her, she did not anticipate the ending to be so soon. She had hoped for at least one more year and that it would simply be Sid moving on—Elena could handle that so long as her home life stayed stable. With Sid and Jay's murder her life has lost any possible stability and left Elena without any recourse for work. Directly after Elena will be focusing on survival first—everything else, second even if that means leaving the children she was watching with someone else. |

FIVE THINGS: Five things you've always wanted to RP out/explore about this character but have never gotten the chance to do before, why you picked this character, things you're most looking forward to playing out with this character, etc. Try to include at least one plot idea for your character. Providing this information helps the mod and other players build plots around your character. • Elena is not a gentle woman. If she gets in a fight with someone, it’ll be physical. She’s also liable to try to pick fights with someone when she’s feeling her worst. When she throws a punch, she expects it to be returned and would be confused if it wasn’t. I think that sort of situation and mindset would be interesting to play out. • Connected to the first, Elena was never made for an organization like the Order. She is best in rough and tumble groups which don’t expect lady-like behavior. I think placing her in this situation has a lot of potential—for character growth both for her and for the Order characters who were raised in vastly different situations. It also places the Order in a situation where they have a person who has been greatly affected by their existence—it’s a confrontation of the reality that they affect the people that become involved with them in each location. • Violent batshit is needed in the Order if only to threaten and harass Bellatrix. Bella can be vicious and violent, Elena is too. Bellatrix is also reportedly afraid of Elena and I think that’s a relationship that needs to be continued in game. Plus Elena is going to be grieving so the batshit will probably be in high gear. • Elena is not a stupid woman despite how it may seem. She will realize that magic is important to know particularly in fights. Fighting is the most important thing to her so she’ll be looking for someone to tutor her. She is never going to be a good wizard/witch. • Does anyone really want to give up Elena nicknames? |
